To sell to large US corporations with a turnover of more than US$ 1 billion a year and with its own brand. With this goal in mind, Uruguay's Pyxis, a technology company specialising in e-commerce solutions, has decided to open its own office in Manhattan, in the heart of New York, from where it will target large companies directly, explained Diego Sastre, founding partner and CEO of the company.
Although the market is not alien to it (it has been selling to the US since 2012, which accounts for 30% of total turnover and 70% of its exports), until now it sold through third parties that contracted its software factory services but without its own brand.
"For this market we work with technology integrators, for companies such as the German company Arvato Systems, a specialist in e-commerce implementation, which hires us in offshore mode to improve their developments. From the new office, we will reach end customers with a sales team and our own brand," he said.
The decision to go after this market with the Pyxis brand is no coincidence. The company has gained extensive experience in Latin America working for large corporations with a turnover of more than US$ 1 billion. "In the Mexican market we have already worked with Femsa, the Coca-Cola bottling company, and Mabe, a manufacturer of household appliances, and in Peru with Belcor, from the fashion industry. The experience with them is what will allow us to be more confident," he said.
With these guarantee certificates, the arrival became "easier" and, according to Sastre, negotiations are already advanced with large fashion and retail companies in the New York area. By the end of this year, the company's principal expects to have a team of five people and a deal in place.

Several factors contributed to the choice of New York. Both in the city and in the region there are more large corporations and therefore more opportunities to attract potential clients, explained Sastre, who clarified that the aim is not to compete with their current clients but to go after other companies because "there is a market for everyone".
Specifically, Pyxis will go after companies that are looking for world-class digital platforms with complete solutions but that demand agile implementation at a more affordable price. "Our differential is that we move with the agility and speed of a startup, something that large software corporations often can't have".
Pyxis' solutions include stock management, digital marketing, data management to improve sales and contact with suppliers.
The US joins Chile, Colombia and Mexico as countries where the Uruguayan company has set up its own office.
Pyxis started operating in 2010, has a team of 200 people and records growth every year, which in 2017 was 43%.
