More than 40 young people graduated from the Testing workshops of Proyecto Nahual. Of these young people, 5 have found jobs -a little more than 10% of the total-. Although this figure may seem small from a mere statistical point of view, it is huge from the point of view of being able to change the life of a young person and his immediate environment through the culture of work in a thriving sector that excites.
Most of us who collaborate with Proyecto Nahual were convinced for a long time that the path that a professional in the IT industry should follow was to finish high school, continue a tertiary career at a university and finally get a good job to develop as good professionals. Today, Nahual Project -as well as other educational proposals- opens the possibility of trying to break certain paradigms, where the training and learning path that each kid follows may very well be different.
In spite of this reality, when looking for people for our companies, many of us have asked ourselves: "Hey, but he is not in college, do you think about hiring him, does he only have a Java programming course, how can I be sure that he will work, check the email to see if a CV of someone who is finishing college has not arrived?
Making a generalization from a particular perception, we are being part of a profound transformation in society, both at the educational level and in the world of work, where the need to incorporate people who share the principles and values of our organization, and who have the ability to be part of our work teams, today is almost the same - and even more important - than just being a good technician.
This is how in Nahual we pursue the insertion of young people into the labor market, trying to leave a mark on them about the importance of wanting to continue learning and to excel in life.
To achieve this goal, we rely on sharing with them basic notions and methodologies of software testing, as well as seeking to strengthen soft skills and promote strong working principles such as responsibility and a culture of teamwork.
Those of us who collaborate with this Project do so on a completely voluntary and honorary basis, because we believe that if we all contribute something, we can make this world a better place.
