In these times of constant change, one of the main concerns of companies is to know how to innovate in order to survive in a world in which instability has become the norm. In view of this, and in the framework of the programme recently launched by Cuti, the Spanish innovation expert Enric Segarra shared with InfoNegocios the five keys to foster innovation in organisations and companies.

The first thing that companies that want to innovate have to have is the full will to do so, innovating generally implies breaking with some of the precepts that have worked in the past, so it is difficult and requires a certain rigour'', Segarra explained.

Once a company decides to innovate, it has to try to understand what the new customer needs are or could be, and based on this knowledge, the company will have to organise itself in order to satisfy the new needs detected. This requires a transversal organisation that generally clashes with the type of vertical organisation that companies usually have'', the expert pointed out.

In order for companies to reinvent themselves and stay ahead of the curve, Segarra suggests these five keys:

1) Be fully determined to innovate.

2) Put the focus on the customer to understand the needs they may have.

3) Reorganise to meet that identified need.

4) Change the metrics that have been used in the past and prioritise customer satisfaction over shareholder satisfaction. Put yourself in the user's shoes.

5) Take up the challenge and implement the innovation plan.

Fear of failure is the main obstacle companies face when they decide to innovate. This is normal, when we innovate we have a certain risk associated with it because we are changing things that until then worked in a certain way and will no longer do so'', concluded Segarra.

The visit of the Spanish expert took place in the framework of the launch of a new programme of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti). The new programme ''i3: +ideas +initiatives +innovation'', aims to train and develop innovation management skills in ICT companies. There he gave a seminar called, "Think again! Turbulence, Black Swans, Change and Disruption" where he spoke about the importance of the adaptive capacity of organisations and its embodiment through innovations.
