At a time when people are advised not to leave their homes to avoid the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), e-Commerce has become an enabling channel for people to access products and services from home.

In this regard, the Chamber of the Digital Economy of Uruguay (CEDU) pointed out the importance of preparing to professionalize online sales channels, because they represent an easy, practical and safe alternative to purchase goods and services without having to go to physical stores, which unfortunately as a result of this situation have had to close their doors, with all the problems that this entails for the trade and services sector.

"Given the advance of the coronavirus pandemic and the exhortation of the authorities to stay at home and reduce social contact, the consumption habits of users change, who begin to stay at home and choose to buy more online," said Andres Marrero, director of CEDU.

In this sense, CEDU is developing the stage prior to a new edition of CIBERLUNES, which will take place between June 8 and 10, being a relevant opportunity for people to access important benefits and offers online.

"We are in a moment of great uncertainty and we do not know what may happen in the coming days, but e-Commerce is a fundamental tool in this situation," said Andres Marrero, director of CEDU, noting that Uruguay has a high Internet access and an important logistics operation to perform in days when people opt for this mode of purchase.

Marrero also noted that the discount campaign will offer the possibility of accessing hundreds of items and services without the need to go out on the street, in addition to being an important alternative for businesses that are experiencing a lower flow of customers in their stores.

Originated in 2014 in Uruguay, CIBERLUNES was created inspired by the traditional CyberMonday in the United States, a marketing action that emerged in 2005 and consists of promoting offers that can only be purchased online.

Considered the maximum e-Commerce event in Uruguay, since its birth it has had a great acceptance by companies and users. In its first edition there were more than 100,000 visits to the website ciberlunes.uy and by June 2019 the figure exceeded 400,000 interested parties, thanks to a CEDU campaign that reached 2.2 million people.

For its part, a survey conducted by the consulting firm FACTUM noted that 74% of the population is aware of this digital event and half of them positively evaluate the discounts of the participating brands compared to other firms and websites.

The number of participating companies has also multiplied, as in the first edition in 2014 there were 20 that joined the initiative and for 2019 the figure reached 77 firms.

Currently, CEDU is registering companies that want to participate in the next CIBERLUNES, and providing information to its partners and all the companies that join about the habits of the digital consumer, which will be of utmost importance considering the current situation.

"Over time, the CIBERLUNES brand has positioned itself better and better. From CEDU we take very important care of it, because it is our representation and that of the entire digital ecosystem," concluded Marrero.
