The announcement was made by the Prosecretary of the Presidency of the Republic, Juan Andrés Roballo, and the executive director of Agesic, José Clastornik, in the framework of the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day.

In the coming days will be sent to Parliament the bill that will provide a legal framework for "trust services" for electronic identification and electronic signature in the cloud.

The objective is to "provide legal certainty to advanced electronic signature services in the cloud and electronic identification, while regulating the activity of those who provide such services," said Agesic.

It also regulates the electronic signature in the cloud, which allows the signature and authentication of people from mobile devices or any computer connected to the internet.

The project also establishes the responsibility of third parties using trust services and creates the necessary powers in the Electronic Certification Unit to regulate the accreditation and control of the providers of such services.

This is a "very important step in the project towards having 100% of the procedures online, which seeks to provide the population with tools and possibilities aimed at accessibility and equity," said Roballo.

Clastornik clarified that there is already a regulatory framework and there are institutions that provide digital certificates or electronic signatures, such as the Uruguayan Post Office or the Ministry of the Interior through the new identity card.
