In the framework of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and China, on Wednesday 31, the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Carolina Cosse, will lead a delegation to China to promote cooperation in information and communication technologies. The head of Uruguay XXI, Antonio Carámbula, told the Presidency of the Republic's website that another purpose of the mission is to attract investment in the sector.

The delegation will return on Tuesday 6 February. The mission is composed of Carámbula, the president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti), Leonardo Loureiro, representatives of 25 companies in the sector and the head of the Uruguay-China Chamber of Commerce, Gabriel Rozman.

The main objective of the trip is the promotion of trade and investment, as well as visits to major technology companies in the cities of Shenzhen, Canton province, and the Chinese capital, Beijing.

There will also be meetings with the China International Trade Promotion Agency (CCPIT) and meetings with Chinese business people from both cities. The agenda includes contacts with national and regional official bodies. In addition, the minister will give two seminars.

"It is the first mission to China this year in the framework of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and after the recent visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi," said Carámbula in a conversation with the Secretariat of Institutional Communication. China insists on the possibility of signing a free trade agreement with Uruguay.

"China is Uruguay's main trading partner for goods. Twenty-eight per cent of total goods went to that destination in 2017 and our country is one of the most important meat exporters to China. We have a lot of room for growth in traditional services, such as tourism and logistics, and also in global services," said Carámbula. Both countries have had a strategic partnership agreement in place since 2016.
