The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) invited the Chamber of the Digital Economy of Uruguay (CEDU) to participate in the Americas Business Dialogue (ABD), one of the main initiatives of the private sector in the continent, which meets periodically to discuss and propose public policy recommendations to the governments of the region.
ABD's objective is to contribute to the generation of a business environment that will increase investment levels, increase innovation and productivity, generate more and better jobs, foster sustained economic growth and tend towards the development of countries across the continent.
The initiative, which represents companies and organisations from all sectors of the economy and from all countries of the Americas, conducts a sustained high-level exchange with the governments of the region and serves as a consultation mechanism with the private sector for the Summit of the Americas.
Pablo Steneri, IDB Integration and Trade Consultant, explained that IDB members are currently working on "an updated set of policy recommendations that will be presented to the heads of state at the IX Summit of the Americas, which will take place in 2022 in the United States".
ABD's work is organised into 10 thematic Working Groups that address key issues for economic growth and development in the Americas: Agribusiness, Energy, Trade Facilitation, Infrastructure and Logistics, Finance, Trade and Digital Economy, Transparency, Regulatory Cooperation, Human Capital and Innovation, and Natural Resources.
In each of these themes, the challenges and opportunities in the region are analysed, along with initiatives for their implementation.
On the integration of CEDU to the ABD's Digital Economy and Trade Working Group, Steneri said that the IDB sees it as a "valuable" contribution, given that the chamber brings together "the main players in the industry in Uruguay".
