In a sunny and cheerful WeWork space in Chicó Norte, Bogota, is UruIT's new office in Colombia. The main reason why this software development company decided to expand to Bogota is the size of the city and its large pool of skilled professionals. "In the years we have been in Medellin we have had the opportunity to meet candidates from Bogota, some of them are part of the current UruIT team and others could not relocate. In that experience, we saw that there are very interesting profiles, with good English skills and in areas that interest us, such as Data Engineering, UX, Devops, Machine Learning, among others," says Marcelo Martinez, UruIT Country Manager in Colombia.
In addition to being a technological and innovation hub in Latin America, Bogota also offers more options for air connections, mainly with the US, a market UruIT has been targeting since its creation in 2007. The company that was originally born in Montevideo, Uruguay, opened an office in Medellin in 2016. "In Bogota we will not only be able to attack larger and more ambitious projects but also add more value to our existing clients, complementing our projects with other capabilities, while maintaining our culture that characterizes us so much," explains Martinez.
Bogota first came up as an option for expansion at the end of 2018, in a team meeting about strategic plans for 2019. Then, in the middle of the year two representatives from the company's PeopleCare team spent a few days in Bogotá to get to know the city and evaluate office options. "The coworking space is super nice; it has our style. Each company has its own office and at the same time we have collaborative spaces to network and connect with other professionals. The facilities are very motivating and offer attractive benefits connected to what we offer at UruIT, because they encourage sharing" explains Alejandro Ochoa, UruIT's PeopleCare Champion.
Since the beginning of September there is a developer working from the new office and the team hopes to fill the space quickly, adding developers with experience in Angular, .NET, React, Node and Django, technologies that UruIT focuses on. More information about these opportunities here.
On 10/15 UruIT is going to hold an opening event at the cowork, where two developers are going to give the following talks: "APIs with NodeJS" and "Design Patterns with React and Hooks". In addition, Marcelo Martinez and Alejandro Ochoa will tell what UruIT does, how the company culture is, what projects it works on and the open positions. Attendees will participate in the raffle of a Nintendo Switch.
