With the aim of strengthening the growth of e-commerce, and contribute to minimize the risks of attacks, theft and cyber threats, the Chamber of Digital Economy of Uruguay (CEDU) developed the last workshop of the year entitled "Cybersecurity and Testing in eCommerce", where three experts delved into various aspects of the subject. The workshop was supported by Fenicio eCommerce, Districad and Software Testing Bureau.

Guillermo Talento, CEO of Software Testing Bureau, Hugo Köncke, regional manager of Security Advisor, and Reynaldo de la Fuente, director of Datasec addressed the importance of working on the prevention of cybercrime in organizations that operate under e-commerce sites.

"There are organizations that live by abusing electronic systems in order to steal valuable information, generate an attack or a ransom payment," warned Guillermo Talento, from Testing Bureau.

Reynaldo de la Fuente, director of Datasec, advised companies to make cybersecurity decisions a priority.

"Many times the service is required to be done at the end, when it should be implemented at the time of developing the supports, in order to prevent and detect vulnerabilities," said de la Fuente.

A recent report by Datasec found that 77% of companies do not consider it necessary to conduct cybersecurity assessments.

"It was detected that a significant percentage are not prepared in terms of cybersecurity issues, nor do they have adequate measures to cope with the risks they face," said the expert.

For his part, Hugo Köncke, of Security Advisor, explained that cybercrime is now the easiest way to "get hold of other people's money" due to the increase in electronic payments.

This growth brought with it the creation of orchestrated strategies behind every action by cybercriminals.

"Criminals are no longer isolated individuals, but corporations as large or larger than many legitimate businesses," Köncke said.

The specialists agreed in recommending constant testing of sites, applications and platforms that function as sales channels, where economic transactions are made, as they can become an easy target for criminal enterprises.
