In the framework of a new start of the Postgraduate Course in Information Systems of Organizations and Management of Information Technology Companies, of the Faculty of Economics and Administration of the Udelar, a welcome talk was held with the participation of the president of the Chamber of the Digital Economy of Uruguay (CEDU), Guillermo Varela, the regional responsible of viajobien.com and partner of CEDU, Gisselle Miguel, and the director of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti), Mario Tucci.
The three guest panelists presented from a business point of view and taking into account their personal experiences, their opinions on the importance of the content to be taught during the postgraduate course. The professionals shared with the attendees their vision of the digital economy, the relationship with technology and the role of the new generations.
Guillermo Varela, president of CEDU, put special emphasis on the value of acquiring new knowledge to move in the prevailing digital world. "One can not stay only with the doctrinal body of what he studied, we must all be constantly changing, learning new things," he said.
Regarding this point, the IT expert explained the need to know all the business processes of the generality of the industries in order to be able to meet the versatile demand that exists in the market. Besides, he warned about the negative of generating a distance with the company's staff and the harmful effects that may occur for the correct performance of the tasks if there is not, at least, a minimum of training in the different areas of the business.
"You can't keep such a big distance from the people you work with, because otherwise there are a lot of processes that you won't be able to evaluate. You won't be able to analyze if the process time they indicated is correct or if it could take less, the language decision, the architecture or the analysis. All this must be known, at least to have some knowledge, to be able to verify if what is being done is going in the right direction", emphasized the president of CEDU.
On the other hand, Varela, stressed the constant change that the digital world is experiencing and the disruption it has on the most dominant players in the market, which must necessarily "reconvert" to remain. In this line, he stressed the importance of having people trained to achieve these changes, "without previous vices" and who do not want to "force old methods".
At the end of his presentation, he referred to the continuous movement that the labor market is experiencing and, unlike before, he pointed out that nowadays it is difficult to foresee a professional life in one place or position. "Before, you could spend your whole life in the same bank, but now this is no longer the case", he concluded.
