The Chamber of Digital Economy of Uruguay (CEDU) organized a training day aimed at students of the first generation of the Logistics Engineering career of the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC) located in Fray Bentos.
The companies Divino S.A and UES opened the doors of their warehouses and logistics centers with the aim of "bringing future professionals closer to the different digital tools implemented in Uruguayan companies, so that they become familiar with the new concepts at an early stage", explained Natalia Macri, vice-president of CEDU's Training Commission, about the activity.
UTEC students had the opportunity to see the application and implementation of the theoretical fundamentals acquired in the classroom through tours of the facilities, observation of management systems, and talks with professionals about "how information and communication technologies have impacted logistics processes," Macri said.
Throughout the three-hour visit to the UES logistics center, the future engineers were very interested in learning about the practical aspect of the role they will play once they graduate. The young people participated by asking various questions and expressing their opinions.
"It is a great joy for us to be able to share moments like this with future generations of logistics engineers. We believe that it will be a great contribution to our industry to have professionals prepared and specialized in the subject," said Horacio Lorenzo, manager of Logistics and Distribution at UES.
On the other hand, the experience in the Divino Logistics Activities Zone (ZALDI) also included instances of exchange between students and professionals in the sector. The students learned first-hand how the warehouse was designed, the state-of-the-art equipment used in the operation, the technical processes of reception, storage and picking of goods in real time, as well as the validation of current safety standards.
"All these tasks will surely help them in their future work," said Gabriel Cassese, Divino's Logistics Manager. At the same time, he highlighted the company's commitment to "contribute to the development of knowledge of future Uruguayan workers".
