This project is a framework for the cartographic engineering of South America and the country, which currently has a cartographic base developed five decades ago. It will provide adequate knowledge of the territory and especially of the borders by providing an accurate survey, considering the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) for the entire mapped area.
Characteristics of the project
After an international bidding process with the participation of companies from several European and American countries, carried out in 2016, the Topocart - AT Consortium was selected to execute the mapping of Uruguay. The Project, managed by the IDEuy - Spatial Data Infrastructure of Uruguay-, was tendered by AGESIC - Agency for the Development of Government Electronic Management and the Information and Knowledge Society - and the Presidency of the Republic, with funding from the IDB - Inter-American Development Bank. The project involves the mapping of approximately 178,000 km² in the national territory and 1,290 km² in the urbanised areas of the cities. All the mapping will be carried out according to the topological standards defined by IDEuy, in a process of execution of approximately 16 months. The aerial photographs have already been taken, with a spatial resolution of 32 cm for the entire national territory and 10 cm for the urban centres, generating cartographic bases at scales of 1:10,000 and 1:1,000, respectively.
Key partners
The production of this project involves more than 70 people working remotely between the offices in Brasilia and the production locations in Uruguay, generating knowledge and high quality cartographic products.
TOPOCART, a Brazilian company with outstanding experience in infrastructure engineering, urban planning and aerial photogrammetry, provided aircraft from its own fleet for the execution of the aerial phase, having started work with the Carajá turboprop, capable of covering an area of up to 10,000 km² in one day. The aircraft is equipped with an Ultracam Eagle Prime aerial photogrammetric camera, manufactured in Austria by Vexcel, one of the most modern and precise aerial cameras in the world.
AT is the partner working together with Topocart in the management of the Project and local resources, establishing a specific local office for the Project and integrating the team of Technicians and Professionals from Brazil with a team of Technicians and Professionals from Uruguay.
