A mass and global phenomenon, eSports capture the attention of video game fans and, little by little, also of brands. According to the 2019 report by NewZoo, a consulting firm specializing in this industry, the sector will close with revenues of US$ 1.1 billion, 26% more than in 2018.
Although it may seem a distant trend, Uruguay can become an important player even at the Latin American level in the coming years. So say Nicolás Bonora and Alejandro Silva, two entrepreneurs who created the startup Inward Leagues last year. Fabián Fernández, CEO of the technology company Kaizen Softworks and vice president of GLobal Markets at Cuti, joined them as a partner and advisor.
After developing virtual championships and face-to-face activities at a local level since the startup's creation, the entrepreneurs decided to double the bet and are preparing, in agreement with Antel, the first Gamer Convention in Uruguay. The event, to be held in December at the Antel Arena, will revolve around face-to-face video game championships (for consoles, PC and cell phones), but will also include shows, cosplay competitions, and the presence of eSports teams from Uruguay and Argentina.
