The launch of "San Carlos Va Pa'Í", which took place at the Carolino Regional Museum, was attended by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Guillermo Moncecchi; the president of Antel, Andrés Tolosa; and the president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti), Leonardo Loureiro.

Among the local authorities were the mayor of San Carlos, Alba Rijo, and the director of Youth and Sports of the municipality of San Carlos, Gerardo Viñales. During the opening, Moncecchi said that it is essential for the future to know that "any activity is mediated by technology".

The programme seeks to promote and consolidate youth protagonism in the design, discussion and implementation of local public policies, as well as to achieve equity in territorial development, so that all neighbourhoods and areas of the Municipality of San Carlos have the same opportunities.

He also added that the role of high schools is fundamental in this type of process because it is where there is space for "involvement and teamwork", and stressed that "in Uruguay there is a great willingness to be able to coordinate between institutions".

The programme consists of a series of talks, a youth participatory budget and the refurbishment of the Casa Joven with the support of Antel and Miem. The next activity will take place on Wednesday 15 May when the "FeriaTEC" will be held at Liceo 1 in San Carlos, a dynamic that combines stands with talks.

The programme is an initiative of the Municipality of San Carlos and is supported by Miem, Antel and the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technologies. The Faculty of Engineering and the National Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Uruguay, the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC), the Agency for Electronic Government and the Information and Knowledge Society (Agesic) and the Ricaldoni Foundation are also participating.
