Startup Weekend Montevideo has been attended by 350 entrepreneurs as well as prominent mentors and jurors from the world of business, technology and the entrepreneurial ecosystem. This time it was organized by Ingenio, Girls in Tech Uruguay, CUTI and UTEC.
This edition, as always, had a very good turnout, it was particularly characterized by the fact that the attendance of women was higher than the previous year, who are usually the ones who come less to these activities, and also by a high percentage of foreigners, three Venezuelan participants, a Brazilian girl and another Argentinean who came especially to participate in Startup Weekend Montevideo. That spice gave it a very interesting diversity, different work cultures, and a very good level of training.
The participating entrepreneurs, together with the mentors, worked over the weekend to create new companies with viable business models from their ideas.
The theme of the work is free, but the entrepreneurs are asked to find a clear solution to a problem. They work with a schedule, everything is organized so that the results are effectively in those 54 hours. The motivational talk was given by Krikor Attarian from AZ Sportech. Saturday started with a training workshop by Daniel Goldman on innovation and working with mental fixations. The rest of the weekend the teams together with the mentors focused on the final presentations on Sunday afternoon.
After the entrepreneurs form the teams, the work of the mentors is fundamental and is the pillar of Startup Weekend, they guide them in different areas, marketing, design, business plan, among others. In Uruguay is the differential value with other activities, since there is a body of mentors of high level that supports this activity in a very good way.
In this weekend 4 startups emerged:
- Quiero Ver, an on-demand channel platform.
- AGSAT, a platform that offers a solution to the processing of satellite images as a tool for the efficient use of land.
- Intercambia.com, will be a web platform for teaching and learning, courses at any time and of all kinds.
- Chef al Toque, was the winner of this edition, aims to bring together on its website different chefs, it works as a promotional tool and search, so that anyone who wants to contact them.
At the end of the weekend, the entrepreneurs are in contact with the mentors who are mentors from incubators and ANII, so they get information about the different opportunities they can access. These teams leave the activity so enthusiastic that they not only continue entrepreneurship, but become successful entrepreneurs born in the Startup Weekend. The motto of Startup Weekend is: it's just beginning!
