Seedstars World, the global competition for startups in emerging markets, arrives in Uruguay for the third time on Thursday, June 8. With a mission to put the spotlight on emerging market entrepreneurs, this year, Seedstars World will travel to more than 13 countries in Latin America to identify the best early-stage entrepreneurs and offer them the chance to win up to US$1,000,000 and a great opportunity to network with investors and mentors working around the world. Previous global participants have raised over US$61,000,000 in aggregate providing employment to over 800 people.
"Seedstars World is a platform that connects investors with the next generation of entrepreneurs. As this will be our third time organizing the event in Montevideo and with the support of BBVA, an exemplary bank in the field of startup collaboration, the level of excitement and expectations are very high. We have heard a lot about the ecosystem in Uruguay and now we are here to witness the reality," explains Juliane Butty, Regional Manager of Seedstars World.
For its fifth edition, Seedstars is collaborating to create opportunities between BBVA and startups in Mexico, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina. Therefore, two prizes will be awarded in each of these countries.
- Seedstars World Uruguay Prize aims to find the best early-stage tech startups from all industries that have built a minimum viable product, ideally with existing traction. The national winner of Seedstars will have the opportunity to participate in an intensive week of mentoring and meeting with investors, with all costs paid in Switzerland. The week will conclude with the grand finale of the competition, where the Global Prize is an investment capital of up to US$500,000.
- Open Talent Uruguay Prize aims to find the best fintech startups in local markets. The 9th edition of BBVA Open Talent arrives this year stronger than ever and during the event, fintech startups will compete for the Regional Open Talent title, a €1,000 prize in each local event and the chance to become the national winner on the day of the national final on June 8, Montevideo. The national winners will compete in the Regional Grand Final (September 19-20, Mexico City) for a prize of 30,000 ¤, participation in a week of immersion at BBVA headquarters in Madrid, and participation in the BBVA Global Summit. There they will compete against the other winners from the different verticals for an additional €50,000 and to become the grand winner of BBVA Open Talent.
