Some companies have already derived part of their development to Paysandú, Salto and Bella Unión, and provide services to the United States, Spain and Argentina.

The objective of the program is that large or medium-sized technology companies based in Montevideo "begin to see with interest to install a development team led by a specialist in a city of the interior," said the president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI), Leonardo Loureriro, after the presentation of the project on Thursday 17 at the headquarters of the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU).

Under this initiative, some companies in the sector decentralized their services with the formation of work teams in Paysandú, Salto, Bella Unión, Colonia and Maldonado, and provide services to the United States, Spain, Argentina and Central America. According to him, this is possible due to Uruguay's high mobile connectivity and "very good quality" bandwidth.

The Ministry of Industry focuses its efforts on a successful industry such as software to advance as much as possible, also in the territory, said the head of the state secretariat, Carolina Cosse. "It is an industry that needs more and more people, has negative unemployment and, therefore, is a great opportunity for Uruguay". In this area, wages are 27% above the industrial average which, in turn, "is the highest average of all areas of activity, that is, it is a great job opportunity for young people," she added.

He also explained that technological progress and investments made by Antel made the training and videoconferencing rooms of the public company obsolete, therefore, it was bet to resignify them and install there co-working spaces, in which the member companies of the business chamber "will have the opportunity to hire young students from UTU, high school or university in the interior and work from there".

"We can do this because Antel puts its resources, because the industry is mature and because we have an excellent telecommunications infrastructure. What we are doing is taking skilled work to the interior of the country, in order to drive a productive decentralization that we hope will spread to other areas," he concluded.
