Even if you are not involved in the world of computers and stock markets, you have probably heard or read about Bitcoin. That's the most famous cryptocurrency, but there are many others just like it, digital, which are exchanged over the internet.
Today's ICT Table is not about cryptocurrencies, but about something much more important. It dwells on the technology that makes them possible. It's called blockchain and it's a very secure system for recording and validating transactions.
Why is it so important? Because blockchain has thousands of possible applications, all very interesting for what they allow in terms of simplifying processes, eliminating intermediaries and reducing bureaucracy.
For example, it is pointed out that blockchain could be applied to vehicle purchases and sales, without having to involve notaries. Or it could be used in smart contracts or payment systems or electronic voting or state information and archiving systems.
What is blockchain, how long has it been around, why has it become a sort of "vedette" of the business world in the last two years, how many Uruguayan companies are involved with blockchain, what is happening at the government level, and what is happening in terms of regulation?
The ICT Table with Alejandro Narancio, Gonzalo Varalla, José Lamas and Carlos Alba.
