Do you necessarily have to spend four or more years studying for a university degree to work in Information and Communication Technologies?
No.
Is it possible to study programming and within a couple of years have access to a job opportunity with a good income?
Yes.
This applies to young people, but also to older people who want to retrain without having to start a new academic career from scratch.
The Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI) and the National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (INEFOP) launched in 2018 b_IT, a 2-year training programme with 100% online courses. This programme is aimed at people over 18 years of age with 4th year of secondary school or equivalent passed throughout the country. It is accessible through scholarships.
The programme's curriculum is made up of courses from different universities and prestigious educational institutions, both in Uruguay and around the world; and throughout the programme, students are guided by professional mentors and IT industry leaders.
In its two editions (2018 and 2019), 2,300 scholarship students were enrolled; and according to 2019 data, 40% of the class of 2018 was positively impacted by the b_IT Programme, especially in the field of employment.
