After several years of interest, interdisciplinary commissions and hard work, in 1967, the university computer career was created and the purchase of the first computer of the university began, the IBM 360 model 44, which would be installed and working on the fifth floor of the Faculty of Engineering only in December 1968.
Since 1968, the year in which the computer courses began, it has been a constant concern of the Instituto de Computación (InCo) to train students for the work of the future. This has been a fundamental pillar for our country to become the largest exporter of software per capita in Latin America.
Festivities
The School of Engineering will hold two days of celebration, celebration and reflection on the role of computing in the University, the economy and society as a whole. The activities will be held on Tuesday, November 21st and Wednesday, November 22nd at the Amphitheater of the "José Luis Massera" Multipurpose Building, located at 631 Nelson Landoni Street (next to the Faculty).
It is highlighted within the activities the "Opening Table" composed by: Roberto Markarian, rector of Udelar; María Simon, dean of Fing; Carolina Cosse, minister of MIEM; Leonardo Loureiro, president of Cuti and Diego Vallespir, director of InCo.
Also the "Round table: Software and its impact on the economy and national industry". Where are confirmed: Pablo Ferreri (MEF), Jorge Horvath (ANCAP), Mariano de Larrobla (Bantotal), Daniel Guerrero (Ideasoft), Juan Grompone (former InCo, writer) and will moderate Raul Ruggia (InCo).
