After several years of interest, interdisciplinary commissions and hard work, in 1967, the university computer career was created and the purchase of the first computer of the university began, the IBM 360 model 44, which would be installed and working on the fifth floor of the Faculty of Engineering only in December 1968.
Since 1968, the year in which the computer courses began, it has been a constant concern of the Instituto de Computación (InCo) to train students for the work of the future. This has been a fundamental pillar for our country to become the largest exporter of software per capita in Latin America.
Festivities
La Facultad de Ingeniería realizará dos jornadas de festejo, celebración y reflexión acerca del rol de la computación en la Universidad, la economía y la sociedad toda. Las actividades serán los días martes 21 y miércoles 22 de noviembre en el Anfiteatro del Edificio Polifuncional «José Luis Massera», ubicado en la Senda Nelson Landoni 631 (junto a la Facultad).
Se destaca dentro de las actividades la «Mesa de apertura» integrada por: Roberto Markarian, rector de la Udelar; María Simon, decana de Fing; Carolina Cosse, ministra del MIEM; Leonardo Loureiro, presidente de Cuti y Diego Vallespir, director del InCo.
También la «Mesa redonda: El software y su impacto en la economía y la industria nacional». Donde están confirmados: Pablo Ferreri (MEF), Jorge Horvath (ANCAP), Mariano de Larrobla (Bantotal), Daniel Guerrero (Ideasoft), Juan Grompone (ex InCo, escritor) y moderará Raúl Ruggia (InCo)
