Since the beginning of his tenure, Caraballo has emphasized the development of information technology and the department's potential to sell services to the world.

Development, growth and technology

The Mayor Guillermo Caraballo and the director of Sustainable Development, María José Mannise held a meeting with the president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI), Leonardo Loureiro. They toured the facilities of Paysandú Innova and the former Paylana in order to generate strategies that promote the development of knowledge and technology in the department.

Loureiro received information about the technological projects promoted by the Departmental Government "being pleasantly surprised by how we have been developing the plan of activities and strategy with a clear line of work," said Mannise.

Currently the Municipality is working with the consulting firm PwC, winner of the international call whose work will be funded by INEFOP, to define the strengths in global services at the industry level in information technology.

Cuti brings together more than 350 companies that offer products and services in 52 markets. Its mission is to promote the development and growth of the technology industry in our country. It is a reference and active participant in institutions that make up the ecosystem of the technology industry in Uruguay in business incubators, universities, technology parks, business associations and government institutions. His goal is to energize markets, facilitating growth and emphasizing the development of people and their social responsibility.

An important partner

The Departmental Government is aligned to the national policy in an area that seeks to enhance the development and growth of a productive country. "It is very interesting what we can do having CUTI as a partner in terms of the ICT industry," said the director.

Mannise pointed out, by way of example, the Paysandú Innova II project that "will be financed by 17 institutions of which Cuti is one of them, with strong funding from the National Association of Economic Development (ANDE)".

Commitment made

During the tour of Paysandú Innova, Loureiro learned about the scope of the agreement between the University of the Republic (UdelaR) and the Municipality. He was "impressed" with the results of the pilot plan that is being developed.

"The result of the visit is very important because in addition to knowing the ICT development carried out by the Municipality, the president of Cuti raised ideas, made a commitment to work together and accompany the whole process, providing opportunities and trying to get partners from the private sector that are needed in these circumstances," said the official.

The possibilities for young students

Once this stage has been completed, the project is gaining momentum and future meetings are being coordinated with different companies in Montevideo and new visits to Paysandú that could be translated into motivational talks for the young people who are studying at Paysandú Innova to become IT Technologists.

Mannise informed that Loureiro considers that Paysandú has made "a very good choice when defining global works as a strategic line", because it is a department that has all the conditions to develop in this matter.

There is a Technological Baccalaureate, UTEC courses, an Audiovisual Baccalaureate, and a career as a Computer Technologist, among other training possibilities.

The president of Cuti pointed out that from Paysandú new enterprises can be generated around ICT but to sell services to the world and not only to local and national companies.
