From the analysis of the numbers collected by the Statistical Yearbook of the MEC and the information provided by educational centres, a comparative study of the years 2014 and 2015 was carried out with the aim of observing the behaviour of students in degree courses linked to the ICT industry in Uruguay.
Indicators of educational institutions were surveyed, studying admissions, enrolments and leavers, as well as their geographical distribution, by gender and areas of training. Secondary technological, technical, undergraduate and university education and specialisations were taken into account.
Some of the conclusions drawn from the report are as follows:
- The training offer is centralised in Montevideo and the greatest number of students in the interior of the country are linked to the careers of IT Technologist and Telecommunications Technologist.
- The number of professionals pursuing specialisations in Uruguay is low.
- The most frequent factors for dropping out are academic difficulties, most of which are the result of poor prior education.
- In the ICT industry, the gap between pupils and students is present at all levels of education.
From the Chamber we promote and inspire more women to join the industry and Cuti will continue to work to get more people into this industry, where it takes the complement of men and women to make things happen in a better way.
