Uruguayan Conference on New Technologies for Agriculture
Reading time: 3 minutes

Call for Participation

27-29 September 2017, Montevideo, Uruguay

The I Uruguayan Conference on New Technologies for Agriculture "Hay Campo para las TICs" is aimed at presenting proposals and successful cases of the application of Information and Communication Technologies in the agricultural sector and its entire value chain.

The growing access to sensing technologies, the use of drones, the availability of climate data and detailed information on soil characteristics and vegetation cover, is generating revolutionary changes. These changes have opened the doors to the use of Big Data and analytical techniques to support decision making, determining greater effectiveness and efficiency in the development of agricultural activities and generating opportunities in its value chain.

The areas impacted by this situation cover the most varied sectors of agriculture, forestry and livestock, covering aspects such as the efficiency of production and its sustainability, to its impacts on the environment, including its link with food production and its effects on the socio-economic development of human communities.

In this meeting, it is expected to discuss both the use of techniques based on large volumes of data and / or cutting-edge methodologies to improve decision making in the sector, as well as the impact of new technologies in the collection and processing of such data and its application to generate greater efficiency or determine new business opportunities and added value. It also integrates the concept of technological loop between the producer and the final consumer, with permanent feedback between customer and solution provider.

Topics of interest at the event include the following:

  • Innovation in agriculture based on ICTs.
  • New processes to improve productivity, reduce the environmental footprint, improve positioning in the value chain.
  • Integration of heterogeneous systems (soil information, climate, irrigation, animal health, chemicals, etc.) and use of platforms for holistic management of the systems involved. Development of applications based on the integration of systems.
  • Application of sensors, sensor networks, UAVs, and other new technologies for data collection in the field, and use of such data to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the sector.
  • Applications of analytical and operations research methods relevant to agriculture, livestock, forestry and environmental preservation.
  • Big Data techniques applied to agriculture.
  • Software tools, including GIS, optimization models, simulation, and decision support for the sector.
  • ICTs and animal health.

Potential applications cover the following contexts:

  • Smart farms, sensing applications in agriculture
  • Precision farming and digital agriculture
  • Industrial agriculture
  • Small scale farming
  • Agribusiness Value Chain
  • Forestation
  • Land use
  • Environmental impact studies and environmental protection.

The meeting will include invited plenary talks by distinguished international panelists.

The event, co-organized by ANII's ICT4V (Information and Communications Technologies for Verticals) technology center, see www.ict4v.org and the Faculty of Engineering (UDELAR), will be held from September 27-29 in Montevideo, Uruguay, in conjunction with the international conference BigDSSAgro 2017 http://www.bigdssagro.udl.cat/?q=node/75&language=en.

Organizations and companies interested in participating in this event are invited to present innovative developments and technological applications and their impact on the sector, including use cases (proposals focused on product or service marketing will not be considered). Selected papers will be presented orally at the event.

Papers should be sent to the e-mail address contacto@ict4v.org.
