This marked a 26% increase in dollar turnover to US$1,489 million. Of this total, 65.9% of IT industry exports are destined for the United States.

According to data from the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti), the sector employed 12,130 people in 2017. Leonardo Loureiro, president of the Chamber, stressed that the difficulty the technology industry has had in finding human capital is gradually being reversed, because young people understand that it is a good job option.
In view of the change of government, the CUTI representative told Radio Sarandí that they will ask for attention to education and more international agreements to increase exports.
MISSION TO THE USA.
In the framework of the official mission to Boston and New York led by the Minister of Industry, Carolina Cosse, together with the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI), the minister told Radio Sarandí that the government understands that biotechnology, design, creative sciences and data sciences are strategic areas for the complexity of the national economy.
Cosse also pointed out that Uruguay "is detached" from Brazil and Argentina in software development and assured that the government will give more structural support to the sector.
