Companies launch new challenges to creativity in the third edition of the Emprendetón Challenge

5/07/17

The third edition of Emprendetón, the competition of ideas that connects problems and market opportunities raised by important companies in Uruguay with entrepreneurs willing to find solutions, is already underway.
Reading time: 2 minutes

The proposal organised by CPA Innovation, Universidad ORT- CIE and the da Vinci Foundation aims to promote and support the most creative ideas to solve challenges proposed by key companies and organisations in the country in the areas of Agriculture, Health, Banking, Sport Tech and Internet of Things (IoT). Those interested in participating will have time to apply for their innovative projects until Thursday 27 July.

Among the challenges proposed in the area of Agro is the development of interactive platforms to provide more information about dissemination days, courses and livestock prices. The challenge is supported by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), the Artigas Teachers Institute (IPA) and the Uruguayan Wool Secretariat (SUL). It also poses a challenge linked to the automation of the data extracted from the remote census of the state of the pastures for better management and exploitation of the same.

In the health sector, CPA FERRERE raises the question of how to determine the real state of a set of beds grouped within a medical institution at low cost and proposes to improve the cost-benefit ratio of the use of space in these organisations. For its part, IBM would like to know about the possibility of using technological development to improve the health of the Uruguayan population.

In banking, the company Bantotal is looking for solutions in financial services in which DLT technology can generate substantial changes, and then design and develop a proof of concept (POC) using IBM Blockchain (Hyperledger). Meanwhile, Banco Santander aims to receive innovative ideas or projects to implement in the medium and short term, linked to artificial intelligence, big data, social networks, digitisation of internal and external processes, among others.

Within the framework of technology applied to sport, AzSportTech sets the challenge of generating video content so that the athlete can review concepts and simulate being present at a training session or match, as well as creating a space where all the content can be centralised, accessible to any athlete from anywhere.

With regard to IoT, Movistar poses a challenge linked to improving the quality of life in cities through IoT. In particular, it invites to design a smart tool for Montevideans with information about available parking spaces (either paid, free or parking) near a set destination, geo-referencing these points and taking the driver to the exact location.

Participants will have to go through the stages of ideation, maturation, prototyping and pitching of their projects before a specialised jury and will have the opportunity to train with the organisers and professionals in each area.

Entries to the competition can be made via the website: www.emprendeton.uy.
