The winners of the second edition of the Emprendetón competition were "The bot makers" in the Banking category, "Vigiator" in Agro, "Trip Assistance" in Health, and "The talent machine" in Creative Industries. All the projects will seek to be incubated by Da Vinci Labs and the ORT Entrepreneurship Centre.
Emprendetón is the contest organised by CPA Innovation, the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti), the ORT University and the Da Vinci Foundation. Each of the winning teams in this second edition received US$ 1,000 as a prize and will have the possibility to apply to be incubated at Da Vinci Labs and at the Entrepreneurship Centre of the ORT University, where experts and mentors will guide them to develop and implement the project that led them to stand out in this contest.
For the 2016 winners, the validation, development and testing stage of the projects is now open. Several of them are working in partnership with potential suppliers or investors, and even with customers. This is the case of the "Vigiator" team, a device that seeks to prevent the theft or depredation of sheep, which is already conducting field tests with the support of Central Lanera Uruguaya, which is interested in contracting its services. Lucía San Román, Martín Alurralde and Sergio Gorrochategui are the creators of this tool, which was the winner of the Hackathon Agro, held this year in the framework of Expo Prado, organised by Cuti, the Rural Association of Uruguay and the British Embassy in Montevideo.
The team of "The bot makers", made up of Clara Youdale, César Varela, Osvaldo Colina and Pablo Costa, is also in talks with a local bank to launch their project, called "Coni". It is a virtual assistant that allows access to all banking services quickly and easily via chat. "The future is just a chat away", was their premise when presenting this initiative, which won the prize in the Banking category.
For the winners of the Health category, Andrés Garderes and Mauricio Gayol, who presented the automated travel assistance platform "Trip Assistance", the work ahead involves approaching healthcare providers in Argentina - the target market - and launching the mobile application. Their project was based on satisfaction surveys among travel health insurance users, which identified a high level of dissatisfaction with the services received.
For their part, the team that created "The talent machine", Damián Marcos and Patricia Lockling, the winning project in the Creative Industries category, showed the progress of their platform and will now go out to capture potential clients in the market of advertising agencies, audiovisual production companies and potential workers in this sector.
All the winners stated that their goal is to go into production in 2017 and they fulfilled the central objective of the project, which was to focus on innovation in order to respond to the real needs of the different sectors of the industry represented in the competition.
