In the framework of the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (May 17), Agesic seeks to raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) bring to societies and economies.
In Uruguay it is a day to commemorate the equity of our information society, framed in an inclusive digital policy that promotes the development of Digital Government.
In the last decade, our country has positioned itself at the forefront as a world and regional reference in digital development through initiatives such as the Universal Homes and Fiber Optics Plan, the delivery of computers and tablets to children and senior citizens, livestock traceability, 100% of the State's procedures starting online, the digital signature for the entire population and the National Electronic Health Record, among others.
The objective of Digital Government is to improve the quality of life of people through better services that incorporate new technologies. This is not achieved in isolation, but through a comprehensive strategy to provide digital and innovative services that ensure the exercise of citizens' rights in the digital world, reads a statement from the agency.
This is the foundation of the Digital Government policies that have been implemented in Uruguay for more than ten years: understanding that the needs of all people are the focus of our work and the starting point. Those people are the ones who make up our information and knowledge society, a citizenry that every day demands that the State improves its services, based on equity as a principle.
