Last Thursday, September 14, the launch of the Hackathon Seguridad Social BPS/2017 took place. Aimed at people over 15 years old and with some knowledge in social security and welfare, it is organized by the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti) and the Social Security Bank (BPS). It is a free open competition for national teams of researchers, entrepreneurs and experts in information technologies, social security and business.
Loureiro explained that the event will take place on the weekend of Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5. The closing ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 5, and the three best works will be chosen. "A lot of importance will be given to the idea and the conception. Two weeks before the competition the teams will be formed, and they will have to carry out an investigation. Registrations are open until October 20, and they can be made through the project's website". The implementation of the winning work will depend on its style and its respective result.
"We seek to raise the awareness of the different participants and actors of the economic activity on these issues. It's like getting into a specific topic and trying to find new ideas to solve existing problems in some areas, in things that have always existed and in other problems that have arisen with the advance of the economy. We want to encourage young people but they don't have to be so young either. In the editions we did of the Agro Hackathon we had several teams, 18 or 19 year olds, but we also had people with good experience who contributed a lot to the understanding and deepening of a particular topic," said Loureiro.
The objective is to develop innovative solutions that add value to current real social problems in Uruguay. Encourage entrepreneurship and innovation for the strengthening of Social Security and Social Welfare in Uruguay. Promote collaborative work among peers, strengthen multidisciplinary work between industry, academia and government, show the potential and development of the ICT industry in Uruguay, among others.
The challenge will consist of developing, during two days of work, a business model and a minimum viable product or prototype, in order to solve one or more problems of welfare or social security in Uruguay through the use of technology.
