In the framework of the "i3 Program: +ideas +initiatives +innovation" of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti), which includes a series of workshops aimed at strengthening innovation capabilities in ICT companies, the director of Technology, Developers and Platforms of Microsoft Latin America, Eduardo Mangarelli, referred to "The opportunity of artificial intelligence".

"When we talk about artificial intelligence we refer to the ability of technology to - based on large volumes of data that today all companies and organizations have - to extract patterns of information that can be useful," he explained.

Mangarelli said that the development of artificial intelligence today is "highly complex", so Microsoft seeks to "democratize" access to all companies, beyond the technological, "so they can build added value for your business".

This type of technology allows, based on historical purchase information, to identify which is the next type of product that could be recommended to certain users, or predict the amount of stock of a certain item depending on the time of year or weather, from a projection that determines how much will be sold, among a myriad of additional utilities.

Microsoft offers a family of products, tools and applications that adapt to each customer, need, type of company and business. Microsoft Azure, for example, is the cloud platform that applies in all scenarios of artificial intelligence, but there are more specific technologies such as Microsoft Cognitive Services or Azure Maching Learning.

Mangarelli said that at the moment in Uruguay there are an interesting number of technology companies that are developing their capacity to produce based on artificial intelligence, but "there is still a huge opportunity in other companies that are not technology companies to generate differentiation".

"Understanding what capabilities I need to develop within my company, how to maximize the use of technology and how to generate value with artificial intelligence is the challenge today in every organization. Whether it is to improve employee productivity or create new types of products, the challenge of generating exponential changes in business models is part of the digital transformation," he concluded.
