The future of industry goes hand in hand with the development of artificial intelligence, robotics, electronics and software, said Carolina Cosse. At the opening of the Professional Updating Informatics Conference of Uruguay, the minister said that the country has the conditions to take this step thanks to the infrastructure built in the last decade and the change achieved in the energy matrix.

The Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Carolina Cosse, explained that since the government of Tabaré Vázquez "great efforts are made to open markets for Uruguayan production, but sometimes it happens that, when a purchase order comes, there is no capacity to fulfill it". "That there is no production capacity means that we have to shorten processes, increase productivity and production," he added at the opening of the Uruguayan Informatics Conference of Professional Update.

To meet this challenge, the minister said that the country must study technology, because artificial intelligence, robotics, electronics and software are the future and is the new way to produce. She also stressed that in the last decade the necessary infrastructure and the change in the energy matrix was consolidated in this country, which was articulated between public agencies and private initiative.

He said it was possible thanks to the conversion of non-refundable funds earmarked for technological innovation, biotechnology, chemistry and knowledge-intensive areas.

He also announced that robotics workshops and the promotion of entrepreneurship, cooperativism and support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises will continue. He also highlighted the work carried out from the initiative "benefits fair" that travels the country with the aim of disseminating the tools available to entrepreneurs and industrialists.

He also said that the ministry works for the development of the industry of information and communication technologies (ICT), as well as to boost electronics and software, on which he noted the sustained growth for years.

On the impact of the submarine cable that will connect Uruguay with the United States, Cosse highlighted the business opportunities that will open up for the country. She also pondered the competitive advantages of the installed applications and the importance of having a partner like Google, with which, she estimated, challenges will surely arise.

The Jornadas de Informática de Actualización Profesional del Uruguay have been held annually since 1992 to generate an environment of exchange between professionals, researchers, students, companies and decision makers. They are organized by the Asociación de Informáticos del Uruguay with the support of universities, governmental entities and the most important technology companies.
