The minister stressed that these missions open opportunities for Uruguay to be better known in "the field of the future".
The mission of the information technology (IT) industry, which toured Boston and New York, organized by the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti) and led by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Carolina Cosse, came to an end after five days.
The purpose of the tour was to visit the main technology centers and business communities in the sector in both U.S. cities, in order to strengthen ties and open cooperation opportunities. Among the top centers visited were Harvard Innovation Labs, MIT Media Lab, Boston Dynamics, Cambridge Innovation Center, Hubspot, Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, IBM Manhattan, Techstar, New Lab, Knotel and Greater NY Chamber of Commerce.
The closing of the activities took place at IBM Manhattan, where the president of CUTI, Leonardo Loureiro, thanked Minister Carolina Cosse for her support to the sector and for having led the delegation.
For her part, the Minister closed by addressing the group of Uruguayan businessmen, whom she congratulated for their commitment and emphasized that, as a result of this type of missions, a great learning is obtained and "a great work is done for our country".
By showing the work done by the IT industry in Uruguay, "we are building a country brand and we are opening opportunities for Uruguay to be better known, especially in this area, which is the area of the future".
"It is the area of the future for our children, our boys, our girls, and I think that coming to these places and seeing the explosion of technological development, which is not going to stop (...), shows us the great opportunity that our country can have," he said.
"As minister, I want to share with you the need for all Uruguayans to know about this opportunity, especially the youngest," she added.
For this reason -he explained- the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining and CUTI are carrying out joint initiatives, for example, the Jacarandá project, which aims to "bring the work to the interior".
Cosse thanked the delegation and IBM for this opportunity.
