Since 2018 it has been working with the b_IT program offering content from Spanish-speaking universities to 1000 students in Uruguay.
B_IT is a 2-year 100% online training program (the first year focuses on programming and the second year on IT analyst related content). Some of the edX courses are used in this program to train students in ICT related topics. This program is developed jointly between INEFOP and Cuti, Uruguayan organizations, who work towards the development of the talents that the country's strategy requires based on the exponential advance of technology.
Leonardo Loureiro, president of Cuti, tells us about his experience with edX For Business, and how edX content is helping them achieve their goals.
Why was your organization considering online education? What was the need? What subject areas are most relevant to you?
The Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti) is an organization that brings together all IT companies in Uruguay, therefore promotes training in different areas of knowledge, so that companies have the best talent to develop. That is why it decided to create the b_IT Program, a proposal for education in Information Technology 100% online, of 2 years duration aimed at people living in different cities of Uruguay, over 18 years old with 4th year of high school or equivalent approved.
Who benefits from offering edX courses in your organization?
B_IT arises as a scholarship program, in partnership with INEFOP (National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training) that aims to integrate new talent to the IT industry, focusing actions to access this training, women, people from all cities of the country, unemployed, disabled, among other groups with difficulties in accessing employment.
Why did you choose edX?
We approached edX because we knew the platform, and we agreed with its mission to reach with high quality educational offers, "...to everyone and everywhere". We also approached edX because of the offer of courses in Spanish from universities of international prestige, and because the communication and design of the courses were adapted to the profile of b_IT students.
What do you hope to achieve? What does success mean to you?
We intend to train more than 1000 people for employment in the IT industry. We want to contribute to the process of aspirational change of people to see in IT training, an opportunity to face the challenges that the world of work offers us because of the speed at which technology evolves. Thanks to the support of INEFOP, b_IT is an educational initiative that collaborates with the country's development strategy, providing scholarships to those groups that present the greatest challenges when it comes to accessing employment. For this reason, the following criteria were considered for the selection of b_IT scholarship recipients: 50/50 women and men, 50/50 Montevideo and the interior, other goals agreed with INEFOP, such as people with disabilities and people of African descent, and other weightings such as unemployment and having dependents, among others.
What would you like to say about the experience and value of working with edX?
Once we made contact with edX we chose them for their fluidity in the dialogue, clarity and agility in the processes of offering, contracting, monitoring and reporting of the courses. We highlight the efficiency and thoroughness in the process of validating the identity of students when obtaining certification. EdX gives us, in each management, the assurance that they will respond with solutions to any query or requirement on our part.
