In a meeting held on Thursday, September 3, members of the Board of Cuti led by its President, Eng. Leonardo Loureiro, presented the Initiative 5_25 to Eq. Isaac Alfie, Director of the Office of Planning and Budget - OPP.

Initiative 5_25 conveys the vision of the information technology sector, in which the evolution and current situation of the industry is presented, as well as a series of proposals aimed at responding to the needs of both the sector and the country.

The positioning of Uruguay at international level and the opening of markets were the main focuses of exchange during the meeting. From Cuti, the importance of consolidating Uruguay as a technological country was pointed out, which will allow not only to increase the volume of services exports but also to attract new and better investments.

The Director of OPP pointed out the effort made by the government to attract investment to the country and stressed that within the Investment Promotion Law there is a chapter dedicated to services.

Regarding the budget adjustments that are being made by the Government, from the Chamber the interest of the sector to collaborate towards greater efficiency of the State and generate new opportunities to mitigate the impact on private activity was raised.

Regarding the unsatisfied demand for talent in the IT sector, the need to generate mechanisms that promote the attraction of qualified professionals was discussed, such as the "Fast Track Visa" of Uruguay XXI, and the exploration of attractive tax regimes. At the same time, the important work carried out by the Inter-institutional Roundtable of Women in STEM was highlighted, a framework in which numerous public policy proposals were developed to promote and encourage the link with science and technology among women. The roundtable operated under the orbit of OPP in the framework of an agreement with UNESCO and is currently inactive.

The digitalization of the State was presented as a topic of great interest by the industry, offering from the Chamber to support the process and provide technologies that contribute to this transformation. Actions such as "standardizing" technology in the State to avoid redundancies were some of the topics discussed. On the other hand, it was raised how virtuous would be an opening to the data and information of the State, since these constitute an asset of great value that would allow the sector to build solutions based on them.
