Cuti will create an IT Observatory in 2020

19/12/19

The project "IT Observatory for the analysis and monitoring of indicators towards the continuous improvement of the competitiveness of the IT industry in Uruguay", will be supported by Ande's Sectoral Public Goods Programme.
Reading time: 2 minutes

The IT Observatory Project was approved by Ande and will receive funding for its implementation, starting in March 2020 for a duration of 24 months. Its purpose is to understand in a timely manner the global technology trends and the identification of the main markets that present business opportunities. To observe the opinion of global IT benchmarks and industry trends, analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the national industry and develop sectoral indicators, so that local entrepreneurs can undertake processes of reflection, improvement and growth adjusted to the global context.

Why an IT Observatory?

We believe that in order to mitigate the effects that affect the productivity and competitiveness of the national IT industry, it is necessary to understand the causes and carry out diagnoses that allow us to identify weaknesses, in order to work on improving them, and strengths, in order to shore them up.

The project seeks to contribute to the improvement of the IT sector's productivity by generating inputs that reduce transaction costs, as well as to improve the sector's competitive conditions and business environment, further promoting the international insertion of the Uruguayan IT industry.

What do we want to achieve with the IT Observatory?

  • Generation and access to information
Generate a methodological framework for the collection, processing and analysis of sectoral indicators - comparable at regional level - that allow comparative analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the sector such as regional competitiveness (prices and costs), labour market, opportunities for improvement, niches for the development of new IT businesses, quantification of IT exports in products (e.g. traceability), preparation of IT rankings at LATAM level.
  • Review of IT standards and best practices
Generate methodological framework for the collection, processing and analysis of global IT trends - markets and global demand.
  • Positioning of the ICT industry abroad
Improve Uruguay's international positioning through the generation of sectoral reports that highlight the strengths and expertise of the sector in those verticals or niches that are identified as having value in global markets. This input will support the sector's promotion efforts abroad, accompanying existing initiatives such as trade antennae, diplomatic missions, export promotion actions, talent attraction, among others.

Cuti hopes that the results of this project will contribute to the objective of doubling the sector's sales by 2025, based on an increase in exports. We believe that it is necessary to work on improving the competitiveness of the sector and that this increase in exports is also supported by a growth in employment, this being a result directly associated with the growth in turnover of companies in the sector.
