In the search for new markets for the sector, the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti) will lead a business mission that will visit the United Kingdom between 18 and 26 June to participate in London Technology Week. In this context, several member companies of the Chamber were received last Tuesday by the British Ambassador, Ben Lyster-Binns and representatives of the British government trade and investment agency UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) who informed about the commercial characteristics of the British market.
"This is the first time we are travelling to the UK and we are doing so with the intention of exploring the opportunities that exist, as this market has been identified as relevant for the partners. Integrating the activities of London Technology Week into the already intense agenda of the mission will allow us to better understand the reality of the technology sector in the UK and make contact with companies from the rest of the world," explained Mario Tucci, vice-president of Cuti's Internationalisation Committee.
The mission, which Cuti began preparing at the end of last year, was merged with the one proposed by UKTI, which foresees the participation of Latin American companies in the sector.
Guido Solari, UKTI director for Latin America, and Leonardo Camandone, UK investment advisor for Argentina and Uruguay, participated in the meeting with the Uruguayan businessmen, informing them about the business expansion possibilities offered by the islands. In this regard, they highlighted the size of the market, the stability of the economy, the transparency for doing business, and the agility and efficiency that characterise the legal and administrative processes. In addition, they indicated that the recruitment process for human resources in the country is easy and that office rental costs are affordable. They also emphasised the recent reduction in corporate taxes and noted that the information technology sector is the one that has received the greatest boost in recent times.
During the mission, the Uruguayan delegation will participate in business rounds, networking events -including one organised by the Chamber with the support of the Uruguayan Embassy in the British capital-, visits to technology hubs, participation in seminars and various exchange and innovation meetings. "The participation of companies from countries such as Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and Peru allows us to think not only in the generation of business opportunities with British companies but also within the Latin American delegation," Ongay concluded.
