Álvaro Lamé, president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI) and member of the mission visiting China with Tabaré Vázquez, reported that with the firm Huawei progress was made in future agreements related to education and the installation of digital cities.
Lamé said, according to the Presidency's website, that "this whole visit has been very positive. We are very pleased with the results.
"It has exceeded the expectations we had when we decided to accompany the official delegation to China," he added.
Lamé also added that "China is a phenomenal market for Uruguay in any of our industries". And he reported on some of the hearings they held during the trip. "We met with the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Carolina Cosse, with technology companies, specifically with ZTE and Huawei," he said, and assessed the meetings as "very good".
In addition, he explained that with Huawei were laid the groundwork for future agreements considered transcendent, both in education for the sector, as in issues related to digital cities.
"There is the possibility of incorporating Uruguayan technology or software to the technology that this company has," Lamé said.
"We invite them to invest in a city in Uruguay to turn it into a 'smart city' (Smart City), which becomes an example for the rest of Latin America, and we can sell that product together," he added.
There are still a number of meetings scheduled by CUTI on the official trip.
