With eleven years of activity, Vairix is very well positioned in the export of custom web and mobile software development, as well as staff augmentation services and dedicated teams. Their main market is the United States but they also have clients in Canada, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Vairix offers a boutique concept; a personalized service tailored to the needs of each client, accompanying their growth and suggesting optimal solutions as their goals evolve.
Since March 1st, Marcelo Ascárate is the new CEO of Vairix and he has two main challenges in his hands: to attract and retain the best talent; and to get clients with challenging and entertaining projects that help to achieve the first objective.
For Ascárate, the software industry is in a leading position in the economic revival in the face of the impact of the pandemic. "The software industry is in an advantageous position. On the one hand, several industries globally have benefited a lot (ecommerce, telemedicine), and on a general level, every business has had to evaluate a digital-focused strategy. Many U.S. companies are increasingly turning to working with partners and/or suppliers abroad and are starting to look outside the U.S. to meet their needs," Ascárate said.
This sector of activity shows signs of constant growth. "The IT industry is positioned as the third most exported product/service in Uruguay", highlighted the CEO of Vairix, who assures that the conditions are in place to continue growing. "Globally, the most successful companies in the industry are operating in a universe without geographical borders. In this context, Uruguay is an ideal country to offer services due to several reasons. First and foremost, Uruguay is a small ecosystem with a highly qualified workforce in demand by the most demanding companies, similar to what Silicon Valley comprised in its beginnings. The second reason, which goes hand in hand with the first, is that Uruguay has an ecosystem of several dozen software development companies of excellent quality and recognized worldwide," said Ascárate.
As another strength, he pointed out Uruguay's time zone to be able to work with clients in the U.S. and that "most of the developers are fluent in English" and that there is "a very powerful ICT infrastructure in Uruguay, which allows us to work from any corner of the country to any destination". He added that the country attracts investors with recent achievements such as the first Uruguayan unicorn, the management of the pandemic through the use of technology and the millionaire investment of Google with its new data center.
MANAGEMENT
For Ascárate, it is key as a country to invest in the development of IT professionals that allow us to continue exporting high value-added services. "Today in Uruguay, the developers of cutting-edge technologies are 'Rock Stars'. They receive weekly job offers from different companies that try to count on their services trying to offer better conditions than those they have today," he acknowledged.
From the management of Vairix, "we have to be able to show that one will work in challenging projects and in a relaxed and transparent environment with a 'flat' hierarchy, being recognized for the value it brings and enhancing the conditions to forge their professional growth from motivation, skills development, strategic guidance, as well as personal".
Ascárate aims to strengthen the organization by attracting new and qualified talent. "For this we also need to get the most challenging and entertaining projects and clients; this is where I will spend most of my time. Great companies are made of great people, so we need the best team," he concluded.
