When you watch the film The Social Networking Dilemma, you are left with a rather pessimistic view of this world that has been gaining so much weight in the lives of all of us. Don't these companies care about provoking political radicalization, amplifying false information, affecting democratic elections, or causing mental problems such as depression and an increase in suicide in young people, as long as they keep us hooked using their platforms? Is there no ethical management of these tools that are used by billions of people? That last question is the trigger for this new edition of La Mesa TIC. What would be the ethical handling of personal data? Is there concern about this issue in the technology industry? What solutions can be proposed? To discuss all this, we were joined today: Javier Barreiro, computer engineer, director of Technology at Agesic, professor at the University of Montevideo and Udelar; Pablo Brenner, computer engineer, CEO and founder of the software company Collokia; co-founder of Alvarion and also co-organizer of Punta Tech; Lorena Etcheverry, computer engineer, PhD in Computer Science, professor grade 3 at the Institute of Computing of the FING-Udelar; and Haldo Spontón, vice president of Technology and director of artificial intelligence development at the Argentine company Globant, telecommunications engineer, Master of Science in applied mathematics, with focus on audio, images and machine learning, he also has an MBA in technology companies.
