Today we share the story of Virginia Rodriguez, Technical Arquitect at Moove-IT. Being able to demystify what it means to work in the industry and being able to attract new talent to the sector, is one of the things that has meant the most to her.
What do you do? What is your main job responsibility?
Most of my time is spent on a project/client. There I work on various parts of the software development process, from participating in requirements gathering, discussing with the team how we can solve problems, investigating options, writing code, etc. I also have more global responsibilities at the company level. For example, collaborating in the definition of the process that someone new who joins the company follows or providing technical advice on other projects.
Describe a typical work day:
It's very varied, but usually it always includes some time to write code, some time to review code from other colleagues, some meetings with clients, and several conversations with the project team or with people from Moove it to work on some more general topic.
How did you come to this job?
I was having my first work experience in another company in the sector, but after a while I wanted to look for new challenges. I liked the profile of Moove it, they just opened a call and I applied. As time went by I gained experience and acquired new responsibilities until I got to the role I have today.
How long have you been involved in the IT Industry?
13 years
What do you enjoy least about what you do?
The days I don't have enough time to write code. Some days, because I have other responsibilities, I have to prioritize other kinds of tasks, so writing code is a bit relegated and I miss it.
What's the best part of what you do?
I choose two: the first, when something we work hard on sees the light of day and we receive good feedback from users. The second, seeing that the processes I help define have a positive impact on people's development and day-to-day work.
What has been the most memorable moment/memory linked to your work?
I think participating in activities (talks, workshops, courses) where people who are just starting out or are not linked to the industry, are taking their first steps to get involved. It's good to demystify what it means to work in IT and encourage one, two or more people to see it as a possible and interesting path for them.
If you weren't doing this, what would you be doing now?
I'm not sure, maybe I would be studying biochemistry or maybe sociology, something that has to do with being able to understand and explain things.
Any advice or message you would like to share for those who are interested in science/technology or would like to work in the industry.
That they should be encouraged, that it's not something only for super smart or studious people, that it doesn't have to be boring or routine, or be far from creative or interaction with other people. Don't be scared by the lack of diversity, because little by little we are going to change it.
