In a meeting with the vice mayor of Shenzhen, he commented on the evolution of the city, whose population has an average age of 33 years and whose income comes mostly from the technology sector. Three ICT giants are based there: Huawei, ZTE and Tencent. The latter is popularly known for being the company that developed WeChat, an application that works as WhatsApp, Twitter and payment method together, and that deserves a separate column to comment on the experience of its use in China.
The companies we visited these days in Shenzhen were DJI, Huawei, ZTE and MakeBlock. DJI, one of the most important drone manufacturers in the world, gave us a demonstration of some of their equipment. For example, one of the most advanced, which can move by making hand gestures, without commands, then in their showroom we saw all the equipment, obviously many of mass consumption, among which were the models that we can see in Uruguay, but also equipment for activities such as agriculture, which can carry up to a plant protection product to apply, following a dosage map.
With DJI we were analyzing how software companies in Uruguay can work with them, that is, how they can be incorporated into the system of business partners. It is noteworthy that in the delegation participates a company that works with drones only DJI and another partner company of Cuti, makes artificial intelligence applications for the largest business partner of DJI in the United States.
In Huawei, which is well known for the cell phones that Messi promotes, we were looking at all the areas of enterprise business with which it has, such as solutions for Smart Cities, Public Safety, Transportation and Smart Energy Meters. We proposed Huawei to analyze the possibility of incorporating Uruguayan partners to these solutions. To have a dimension of the company Huawei, had revenues in 2017, greater than the GDP of Uruguay, 89,600 million dollars, with 180,000 employees and investing in Research and Development 11,000 million dollars last year.
In ZTE, another company known in Uruguay for having participated in the fiber optic home project, received us at its headquarters, where we saw several new things they are working on, such as new technologies and services for Internet TV. The companies took the opportunity to talk to the executives who are in charge of software development, to see how they can work together. Lines of action that will have to be explored in the future.
Finally in MakeBlock, a company specializing in educational robots, we were watching and experimenting, different robot kits that allow different behaviors with the same kit, from playing football, playing music or drawing.
A small sample of companies allowed us to understand why Shenzhen is today a world technological reference, so it is very important that Uruguayan companies analyze how to work with them and why not open offices in this city.
