Logicalis, a global information technology solutions and services company, adopted home office work for more than 3,000 employees in Latin America as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic hit the region. In Brazil, there are 1,500 people working remotely. The success of this movement was only possible due to the business continuity plan (BCP) that started about two years ago and covers all the company's processes and technologies.

The first step of this project was the elaboration of a thorough project of all the necessary changes in terms of infrastructure and organizational culture to ensure that the company's operation would have continuity without any impact, regardless of the external scenario. After the analysis and understanding of all the company's digital transformation demands, the IT infrastructure and network architecture design were remodeled.

One of the key points of the project was the implementation of SD-WAN, a network technology that allows the prioritization and routing of connectivity for all Logicalis offices and data centers. With the technology, the network is intelligent enough to manage traffic based on the rules defined by the company and offer employees, who are working from home, the same experience of the office.

In addition, the company began to store 100% of its systems, applications and documents in the cloud, and in 2019, it completed the complete migration to Office 365 and the roll out of notebooks for all professionals. Thus, today all Logicalis information is stored in the cloud and can be accessed remotely - a fundamental step for employees to be able to work from home as if they were in the office.

As COVID-19 began to expand throughout Asia and Europe, the Logicalis board of directors throughout Latin America began preparing to activate the business continuity plan. The epidemic scenario was already mapped out in the procedure, considering that in recent years, we have faced significant outbreaks of dengue fever and even threats of yellow fever and measles.

Despite all the improvements that had already been implemented, the company had to react quickly, expanding the use of collaboration technology licenses and VPNs. In addition, it purchased 4G modems for professionals who do not have internet at home and developed a remote access guide to Logicalis' corporate applications.

"We were able to move the entire workforce quickly, ensuring not only the safety of the employees, but also the continuity of operations without any harm to their experience or that of the customers," says Paulo Torres, Logicalis' Optimal Services Director for Latin America. The company's mission-critical operations, such as SOC (Security Operations Center) and NOC (Network Operations Center), continue to operate normally.
