Among the main advantages of the new technology is a connection speed 10 times faster and its application in sectors such as industry, health, education and entertainment.
"This is the continuity of a path initiated by Uruguay, which is not afraid of excellence and leadership", emphasized in his speech the Minister of Industry, Guillermo Moncecchi, during the presentation of the first 5G network in Latin America, developed by Antel with the support of the company Nokia.
"It is the same path of fiber optics, cellular networks and submarine cable," he added, at the event held on the afternoon of Tuesday 9 at the Antel commercial store in Montevideo Shopping.
Tolosa, meanwhile, reported that 5G technology will provide a higher connection speed to users, significantly reduce the response to data transmission (technically known as latency) and expand the number of devices connected to the network.
The annual investment of the public telecommunications company exceeds 100 million dollars, of which a very important percentage is destined to the update of mobile networks, said the hierarch.
La Barra, in the department of Maldonado, and Nueva Palmira, in the department of Colonia, are the first areas in the country to have this technology. Tolosa said that in the coming weeks coverage will be increased in the rest of the territory.
In addition, he estimated that in about a month will begin to arrive the equipment of various brands needed to connect to the new network, which will be included in the commercial plans of the company.
