By dint of creativity and innovation, the Uruguayan company The Electric Factory was awarded at the prestigious South by Southwest (SXSW), an annual event held in Austin (Texas) that combines festivals and conferences that set trends in technology, innovation, film, music and culture.
The Uruguayan company won the award in the category "Innovation in connecting People" with the project Read to me, developed together with the local production company Eme content. It is a lamp that uses the Internet of Things to project animations that recreate the story told in children's stories. The device reproduces the images through the recognition of the reader's voice. The result achieved "enhances the experience of that story," said Marcelo Montes Deoca, Head of Production at The Electric Factory.
The Uruguayan company was the only company in the region nominated for an award at the event and won in a category of five applicants, in which giants such as Airbnb and Microsoft competed.
"It is historic what was achieved and gives us great satisfaction because we are inspiring others and show that even though we are in Uruguay everything is possible. You have to do things right and dream," said Juan Ciapessoni, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of The Electric Factory, from Texas.
Ciapessoni especially valued the recognition for the importance of the festival and for the fact of having won being an "independent company founded in Uruguay". "That makes it all the more remarkable," he said. He added that this milestone is part of the process of the company's shift from the world of advertising to innovation in general. Meanwhile, he said that they are outlining the plan to scale the production of the lamp and thus bring it soon to the shelves.
