29/11/17

Plan Ceibal, with the support of Cuti, Fomin-BID, Inefop and several technology companies, held a press conference on 28 November to launch the Jóvenes a Programar project.
Reading time: 2 minutes

This is a programme that trains young people between 17 and 26 years of age in different IT disciplines, an area with a high demand for qualified human resources. More than 700 students from all parts of the country were trained during 2017 to master some of the main programming languages demanded by the industry (.Net, Genexus, WebUI, Python), as well as to work in testing, with quality training.

In this programme, young people are trained by professionals and technicians from Cuti's partner companies, who have in-depth knowledge of the technologies most in demand in the market. Their training is also complemented with English classes and classes on the skills needed to perform in the labour market, teamwork, how to make presentations, among others.

At the launch, the opening of the 2018 enrolment period was announced, which will have space for 2,000 students from all over the country. The courses are free of charge and registration is online at www.jovenesaprogramar.edu.uy.

The conference was attended by Miguel Brechner, president of Plan Ceibal, Morgan Doyle, IDB representative in Uruguay, and Leonardo Loureiro, president of Cuti, who announced the implementation of a Labour Intermediation Service that will link graduates with companies in the technology sector. The director of the programme, Eng. Carinna Bálsamo, also informed that the students make guided visits to companies in the sector, receive workshops, and other activities that aim to raise awareness of the industry and make young people feel part of it.

On the occasion of the launch, a special tribute was paid to Álvaro Lamé, former president of Cuti. In recognition of his work for the training of young people in ICT, Brechner announced that the project Jóvenes a Programar will be named after Álvaro Lamé.

The deadline for registration is 15 February 2018.
