ReconverTite is a spin-off of Abstracta that was born with the support of ANII to innovative social projects. It focuses on job placement in industry through testing and is complemented by other training initiatives such as Jóvenes a Programar/Plan Ceibal and UTEC.
In the interior (and in particular in Salto), job opportunities and salaries for women are lower than for men. The labour supply in technology is scarce but there are great opportunities to train in person or remotely. This leads to a large pool of talent available to add to the growth of the industry. Abstracta's office in Salto employs more than 20 people who work on core projects for the company's global and national clients.
The registration period to be part of the programme has recently ended and in this first instance more than 150 women have signed up and demonstrated their interest in moving into jobs in technology. During the selection process, there were real stories of women who expressed that they had noticed and experienced the lack of job opportunities as well as the lack of knowledge about the possibility of studying careers other than the traditional ones. Women who, due to social and family pressure, follow a career that is passed down from generation to generation. Women who do not have the opportunity to travel to Montevideo in search of more and better opportunities or who want to re-enter the labour market after years of caring for their children. Notaries, teachers, housewives, students, administrative staff, designers, accountants, nutritionists, and the list goes on. Women enthusiastic about taking the big step into the IT world.
In this first stage 10 will be selected. They will be working on agile methodologies, testing, English and other skills to become excellent testers with a lot of desire to contribute. The ReconverTIte and Abstracta team will be accompanying them all the way so that they can successfully insert themselves in this wonderful industry.
