Surely you have received an email announcing that you had won the lottery and asking for your bank details in order to collect the prize. This is an example of phishing, a very common form of hacking on the Internet, which is used to obtain confidential information such as passwords or bank accounts.
There are also more sophisticated variants of hacking. For example, they may implant a virus on your laptop that locks some of your files and then demand a ransom payment so that you can get them back.
Cyber attacks are the order of the day and affect not only individuals, but also companies, state institutions and international organizations.
