JAP Student Stories

Diego Basterrech built a 3D printer.
Reading time: 2 minutes

Diego Basterrech is 24 years old, lives in Malvín and is studying Jóvenes a Programar in group 25 of Genexus technology. Outside JAP he takes other courses related to computer programming and is a student at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of the Republic. Diego has always been very interested in technology and that is why he is now in JAP.

Within the framework of Transversal Competences (TC), he proposed to build a 3D printer for his Personal Project. His interest was born in a TC workshop to which each attendee had to bring a personal object that represented him. One of his classmates brought a 3D print; it had been his first printed object, which led him to go into the 3D printer business. Diego thought: "If he can do it, why can't I?

Diego comments that to carry out this work he took programming concepts learned in the course, which are very useful and can be applied. He also stresses the importance of CT in getting him on track: "Transversal Competences gave me the tools to approach the project in an organized way," he says. He made the first print at the beginning of September: "I'm still learning how to print better and adding improvements to the printer. While the process seems like a pretty straight path, the truth is that along the way I ran into a lot of difficulties and challenges that made me a lot of work. However, since the objectives were clear, those obstacles were not an impediment to reach the goal.
