The tour, which will continue until Friday, October 5, aims to visit the main technology centers and business communities of the sector in both cities, in order to strengthen ties and open cooperation opportunities.
On Tuesday, October 2, the group led by Cosse attended the MIT Media Lab, an interdisciplinary research lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that is supported by world-leading organizations. It is located in Cambridge (Boston), Massachusetts.
The group was hosted by MIT Media Lab President Emeritus Nicholas Negroponte and attended presentations by other MIT experts (Kevin Esvelt, Hildreth England and Mitchel Resnick) in areas such as biotechnology.
"It's not about what they know, it's about how they learn," said Negroponte, co-founder of the MIT Media Lab and creator of the One Laptop per Child program, which was implemented in Uruguay through Plan Ceibal.
Negroponte also stressed the importance of Uruguay having a public telecommunications company, Antel.
The mission agenda will include networking activities and visits to MIT Media Lab, Boston Dynamics, Cambridge Innovation Center, Hubspot, Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, IBM Manhattan, Techstar, New Lab, Knotel and Greater NY Chamber of Commerce.
On its first day of activities, and after being received by the Uruguayan Consulate, the group visited Harvard Innovation Labs, also in Cambridge, Boston.
