The technological evolution in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction sector is moving towards a new generation of software applications. The evolution of Computer Aided Design (CAD) is giving way to the concept of Building Information Modeling (BIM). This implies a conceptual change where a model of the construction is generated by integrating the 3D drawing with additional information such as construction materials, costs, project phases, piping design, among others.
Uruguay has been taking firm steps in the adoption of BIM as announced at the Second National BIM Congress 2018 as the formation of working groups or that the CND would begin to require BIM technology in their tenders.

In the recent review of IDEA Architecture, Lachmi Khemlani (Phd in Architecture) editor of the specialized magazine AECbytes, concluded that "it is an excellent alternative at a lower cost which makes it very popular in several countries around the world that are beginning their transition from CAD to BIM".
