ANII awards PhD scholarships abroad for up to 60 thousand dollars

The National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) issued a message on the social network Twitter to remind the population of its national and foreign postgraduate scholarship programme.

According to the text of the call, "The objective of this call is to strengthen the country's human resource capacities through the financing of postgraduate scholarships abroad for outstanding students. The areas defined for this call are the strategic areas defined by the Ministerial Cabinet for Innovation and which in turn are contemplated in the cooperation agreement of interest".

 

Until 11 May 2017 at 14hs the call for applications for Postgraduate Scholarships Abroad 2016 for PhDswill be open, in two different modalities, for cooperation agreements or in strategic areas. Each applicant will be able to choose only one modality to apply for the scholarship.

 

Strategic areas: PhD proposals may be submitted in the sectors of software, computer services and audiovisual production, human and animal health, agricultural and agro-industrial production, environment and environmental services, energy, education and social development, logistics and transport, tourism. These areas have been called "nuclei of problems and opportunities", in addition to the technological areas to be prioritised: ICTs, biotechnology and nanotechnology.

 

Agreements: In the case of Doctorates through cooperation agreements, scholarships are aimed at Uruguayans - or foreigners with at least two years of residence in Uruguay - and are limited to the following universities: Bristol University and University of Lincoln (United Kingdom), Roma Tre (Italy), Caldo (Canada), IICA (Mexico) and Wageningen (Netherlands). The ANII has specific agreements for certain areas of knowledge with each of the tertiary education centres.

 

What does the scholarship include?

The terms and conditions of the call for applications for doctoral scholarships abroad imply a maximum period of 36 months, which in exceptional cases may be extended for up to 48 months.

 

The maximum amount to be awarded is USD 60,000, which covers, among other things, economy class round-trip airfare, tuition fees, costs of the stay at the place of study, and medical insurance abroad.
